Found a lovely little café…
A few ideas to get us started.
Mail has a way of becoming everything: your plans, your people, your to-do list. Puffin brings those pieces together, with room to focus on what matters.
Bring accounts together. Organize with folders, labels and rules. Write rich messages with inline images and tables, and schedule mail for later.
Keep calendars beside your mail. Plan events, set reminders and manage invitations, with day, week, month and agenda views.
Find contacts, work with lists and groups, and import from Mac Contacts. Optional Mac-to-Google syncing stays off until you choose to enable it.
Reading isn't the same for everyone. Puffin includes adjustable text and spacing, reading guides, read-aloud tools and subtle ruled lines to help you keep your place.
Small choices that make mail feel a little more comfortable. Choose what works for you.
Reading preferences are optional. Individual experiences will vary.
Puffin connects your Mac directly to your mail provider. We don't run a Puffin mail relay or a server that stores your mailbox.
Read exactly how your data is handled ↗Account credentials use macOS Keychain. Cached mail, calendar and contact records use an encrypted local database. Exports and OS-managed copies have separate protections.
Connect your own OpenAI or Claude API key for help with writing, summaries and mail or calendar tasks. Before each model request, review its destination and content. These cloud services may retain what you approve sending.
Assistant changes to mail, contacts and calendars require review. Optional external tools have separate approvals. Neither AI nor external tools are needed for ordinary mail.
Not from this site yet. Puffin is in development, and this is a preview of the project. There is no public download or release date to announce. Google verification and public-release preparation are still in progress.
The app includes support for Google and Microsoft accounts and standard mail protocols, with calendar and contact features depending on the provider. Public Google sign-in approval is still pending; this preview is not a claim of Google certification.
No. Ordinary mail, calendar and contact features do not require AI. The optional assistant uses your own commercial OpenAI or Claude API key, with usage charged by your chosen provider. Consumer chat subscriptions are not used for this connection.
Yes. Puffin is an independent macOS fork of Penguin Mail, retaining the GPL-3.0-or-later license and upstream notices. It is a separate project, developed by Miguel Rodriguez. Public source and release links will be added when available; the upstream project is acknowledged in our project notes.
No. Mail, calendar and contact synchronization connects to the providers you configure. Optional AI, translation and external tools can send reviewed content to other services. Loading remote images can also contact a sender's servers. Our privacy policy explains these choices and their limits.
Puffin Mail began with Penguin Mail, the open source Linux email client. Its design and shared Rust engine provided the foundation for this independent fork and macOS port.
Our thanks go to Penguin Mail's developers and contributors. Their work made Puffin possible. We retain the upstream copyright notices and GPL-3.0-or-later license.
